Discover the Hidden Food Alleys in Tokushima at Night
After meeting your local guide in front of Starbucks at Tokushima station, the guide will take you around Shinmachi Riverside Area, illuminated with LED lights.
There are hundreds of restaurants and bars to the south of the river.
Many locals come to relax and enjoy local food there at night.
After walking around the alleys, we’ll visit the first Izakaya bar that serves fresh chicken dishes cooked with Awa-Odori chicken, Tokushima’s local chicken brand.
You can taste Yakitori (Grilled Chicken), Tataki (Seared Chicken) and so on.
The combination of this local food and drinking local Beer and Japanese Sake will definitely pump up your night!
*Awa-Odori chicken is one of Japan’s prominent brands of chicken raised in the natural environment of Tokushima prefecture.
The beautiful lean meat with a reddish tinge has a moderate amount of resilience with a fine flavor and low fat which makes it healthy.
It boasts the number one production volume for local chicken brands in all of Japan.

Get a Taste of Authentic Tokushima Seafood Gourmet
Tokushima prefecture is bordered to the north by the Seto Inland Sea, and to the south by the Pacific Ocean.
So you can’t miss abundant and varied seafood from the two seas!
After enjoying delicious local chicken dishes, you and your guide will go to the next Japanese restaurant that serves Tokushima seafood dishes.
At this place you will be offered a real traditional Japanese foodie experience which most tourists don’t really know.
Seasonal Tokushima seafood dishes, such as Naruto Sea Bream* Sushi will be prepared with the chef’s amazing cooking technique and timing.
*Naruto Sea Bream is red sea bream nurtured in the rough rapid tidal currents of the Naruto Strait.
It has a crunchy firm texture and an appropriate quantity of fat, which is highly appreciated by seafood markets in Japan. Red sea bream just before spawning in Spring are called “Sakura Dai” (Cherry Blossom Sea Bream); they store fat and become even tastier.

Wrap up the tour with noodles like the locals do!
This foodie night tour is not over yet!
Afterwards let’s continue hopping to one more izakaya bar or ramen bar in Tokushima!
Your guide will take you to hidden bars in small alleys and you can try unique local noodles, such as ramen* and udon.
It is common for a lot of Japanese people to wrap up a drinking party with noodles.
So this is worth doing even in the foodie tour.
In case you’re full and can’t eat any more, your guide will take you to a cozy bar to get something to drink.
*Ramen is a very popular food not only in big cities like Tokyo but also in Tokushima.
There is a variety of different styles here with local ingredients.
The most famous one is Tokushima Ramen with its soup made out of a pork bone and soy sauce.
If you’d like to try alternatives, Tori-Shio Ramen with salty flavored chicken soup would be a good choice.
Please try the difference of regional ramen tastes while you stay in Japan!
